Jacqueline Balen completed a single major study of archaeology in 1995 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb. She has been employed at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb since 1995. She is the Head of the Prehistoric Department, within which she manages the Stone and Copper Age Collections and the Collection of finds from the Vučedol site.

She participated in several scientific projects and science popularization programs

Since 2017, she holds the scientific title of senior scientific associate.

From 2008/2009 she actively participates in teaching at the study program of the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb., and since 2019/2020, she participates in teaching at the study program of the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Philosophy of Juraj Dobrilo University in Pula.

She is the author of several exhibitions, collaborator on several exhibition projects and technical editor of several exhibition catalogues. She is one of the authors of the permanent exhibition of the Prehistoric Collection of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb and a collaborator in creating the concept of permanent exhibitions in the city museums in Ilok and Vukovar and the National Museum in Sarajevo. She participated in about forty scientific conferences with lectures or posters. She is the author of several scientific and professional papers and reports, as well as several books and exhibition catalogues.

She participated in dozens of archaeological excavations. He conducts systematic excavations on sites Lasinja and Viškovci near Đakovo.

Since 2001, she has been a member of the editorial board of the magazine “Journal of Archaeological Museum in Zagreb” and a member of the editorial board of the “Magazine of the Croatian Archaeological Society”. Since October 2012, she is President of the Croatian Archaeological Society. She is a member of the management board of the Iron Age Danube Route Association.
