Phytolith analysis

During the first project year, our collaborator, Dr. Juan José García-Granero processed phytolith samples from several seasons from the site of Prisunjača at the BioGeoPal Laboratory (IMF-CSIC, Spanish National Research Council). Phytoliths were abundant and well preserved in all the observed samples. The phytolith assemblage was dominated by elongate dendritic morphotypes characteristic of cereal inflorescences, most likely wheat (Triticum spp.). Further analyses will explore land-use strategies, crop processing and culinary practices at Prisunjača and other project sites.
